As of June 2021, Golden is officially home to the two largest suspension bridges in all of Canada. David and I were lucky enough to visit this summer, and we are already making plans to go back! Keep reading to learn why we think you should add The Golden Skybridge to your bucket list, pronto!
Location & Getting There
The Golden Skybridge is located just outside of Golden, BC, 1.5 hours west of Banff and 1.5 hours east of Revelstoke. If you are coming from outside of Canada, the closest international airports are Calgary and Kelowna. Although it can be possible to travel by bus, I would highly encourage you to rent a vehicle and drive to Golden. It allows much more freedom and you can make tons of incredible stops along the way!
The Suspension Bridges
Canadas two highest suspension bridges are connected by an easily accessible trail that winds through the beautiful forest on either side of the canyon. Along the way, you can stop at one of the scenic viewpoints, check out the treetop adventure park, and watch the excitement of the canyon swing and ziplines. The trail is a one-way loop that helps keep things running smoothly on the bridges.
As you walk across the first bridge, 426 feet above the canyon floor below, you will see a jaw-dropping 200-foot waterfall to your right. The views of the mountains from here look absolutely incredible! Unfortunately, the heavy smoke blocked them out when we visited. From there, you continue on the path past the challenge course and to the second bridge. Here they have got a stunning viewing platform with a giant swing and more mountain views. The second bridge offers a different perspective of the canyon as you make your way back to the entrance.
The Canyon Edge Challenge Course
What is the Canyon Edge Challenge Course you ask? Think mission impossible suspended 40 feet in the air! Open to everyone over the age of 8, this canyon course is excellent for adults and kids alike. There are three different routes to choose from with varying levels of difficulty, a route for all skills levels.
For the Adventurous…
For all of my adrenaline junkie friends, The Golden Skybridge has recently opened up four 1,000-foot zip line tracks! They begin with views above the trees before the canyon opens up below you. The zipline was not yet open when David and I visited, but we can’t wait to go back and fly 500 feet above the Columbia Valley.
They have also got a massive two-person canyon swing in the works, and it looks absolutely insane! Basically, you get all hooked up and stand on a platform that opens up beneath you, sending you on a free fall into the canyon. The swing kicks in along the way allowing you to soar above the river with your favourite adventure buddy by your side.
On top of all of that, they also offer a treetop village play park for kids, great food, live music during golden hour in the summer months, and a one-of-a-kind atmosphere for adventuring! The Village Grill serves up casual barbecue-style meals as well as craft beer and wine. There is no better place to unwind after your experience than in the open-air dining and entertainment spot with tasty food, great drinks, and local music.
