Whitewater is a fantastic ski resort located just 20 minutes from Nelson, BC.  Named one of Lonely Planets “Top 10 Powder Resorts in the World”, Whitewater is a big time experience with a local, laid back feel.  Keep reading for everything you need to know about skiing at Whitewater Resort this winter!

Why Choose Whitewater?

Whitewater Ski Resort is well known for being one of the best powder mountains on the continent. With its legendary deep powder and endless terrain, Whitewater was one of our favorite stops during our road trip along the Powder Highway! One of the best parts (besides the snow?) was the authentic and charming atmosphere and attitude of everyone on the hill. Looking for a perfect ski trip at a friendly, down to earth resort with crazy awesome runs? That`s Whitewater to a tee.

“What do you get when you add over 40 feet of annual snowfall, delicious, mega flavorful pow chow, and an unbeatably friendly community? WH2O, the Powder Formula.”

On top of that, the crowds at this wonderful mountain resort are unbeatable. Get this, we never waited once to get on a chair lift. At one point, we didn`t even pass a single other person on an entire run! That, my friend, is what dreams are made of. Another great thing about this resort is the fact that there is no cell phone service or WiFi. Yep… you heard that right. Whitewater forces you to completely unplug during your visit and spend the entire day living in the moment.

The Mountain

With over 40 feet of annual snowfall, Whitewater has earned a fantastic reputation across Canada and North America. The Silver King Chair has a great beginner’s area and they offer a selection of lessons to fit all needs. They`ve also got enough variety to keep a beginner/intermediate skier entertained for hours on end. Once you`ve got your bearings, head up the Summit Chairlift and take your pick of skiing the front side or hopping over to Glory Ridge for some of the best glade skiing we`ve ever done!

When you first look at a map of WH2O, you might think “it looks kind of small, doesn’t it?” But once you see the layout of the mountain from above, you’ll realize just how much terrain each chair covers. With 82 marked runs in total, some of which reach up to 3 km long, you could easily spend days exploring this ski resort.

If you’d like to take a break from shredding powder and mix it up; the resort also offers 5 kilometers of multi-use Nordic trails available for snowshoeing or cross country skiing.

The Food

Aside from the incredible powder, Whitewater is also known for their fantastic food. So if you were expecting typical resort food like made-from-frozen burgers, chicken fingers, and french fries… you will be pleasantly surprised. Whitewater Resort offers 3 dining options, each of which serves up fresh, creative and wholesome meals. They are consistently recognized for having some of the best ski resort food in Canada and we saw why immediately.

Fresh Tracks Cafe and Coal Oil Johnny`s Pub are both located inside the main lodge and boast burgers, sandwiches, bowls, salads, baked goods and a ton of options to accommodate all dietary restrictions. It`s all made in-house with local ingredients whenever possible and it`s all freaking delicious, too.

If you get the chance, stop into The Glory Lodge which is located at the bottom of the Glory Chair. Famous for inventive menu items like their Wild Boar Brat, the homemade Glory Lodge Pot Pies, and the West Coast Smoke Salmon Naan; this little loge packs a ton of punch when it comes to its food and its atmosphere.
